5 Top Tips on how to win your mornings
Set up for success…
Success does not come easy, at least not as easy as we tend to think of it. Often when someone or something is successful, the audience gets to see only the ‘tip of the achievement iceberg’, which consists of much more that goes unseen. Whatever you are trying to do, there is a way of adapting your efforts to raise your chances. Success is created with the use of small, incremental progressions over time, and the way to make the days work for you requires conscious action. Think of it this way – if you are at your best when your energy is renewed and your morale is high, why would you let the morning pass without taking advantage of its vast opportunities…?
So, decide to set your day right and win your morning!
Tip #1 – Get up and get to it.
Although sleeping in might be tempting, there is no better way of ruining your discipline muscle than letting the sleepiness of the body decide on the day’s start. Getting up requires conscious effort and you will need to make it work for you if you want to get anything done. If you’re struggling to get up, ask yourself what would motivate you to do it regardless of the feeling. What makes you get out of bed in the morning is what your life is fuelled by.
Do you love yourself and your life? Do you have a purpose? Do you follow your dreams?
If any of these questions disturb you, listen to yourself and understand what your heart desires. There is no better way of getting yourself pumped for the day than ensuring what you’re going to do will feel rewarding and fulfilling. Now, that you have your purpose aligned with your effort, get up and get going. There is no time to snooze in pursuit of your dreams!
Tip #2 – Move.
It is no surprise that your body struggles in the morning if its passive state still remembers the cosiness of the bed’s duvet. That is why, regardless of the initial apprehension, you got to take the body for a little warm-up. Whether it is a walk, a run, a yoga, or a brief workout, you got to get the blood flowing and the heart pumping. This will increase your metabolism, enhance your cognitive capacity, and ensure your mind will stop thinking about a lie-in. Plenty of research has been done regarding the morning exercise and although the opinions on time, intensity, and type might vary, it is an obvious ‘green light’ for body movement. Move your body and let it take your morning to the next level!
Tip #3 – Listen.
Once your body feels awake, ready to tackle the challenges of the day, it is useful and advised to try and relax the muscles of your intellectual organ – the mind. Since your day will be filled with decisions, both minor and major, spontaneous, and planned, give yourself the gift of exercising awareness. Sitting down for fifteen minutes is enough. Meditation is a big word, blown out of proportion for what it is. Since its origins date back long before any definitions have been settled, it is only fair to state that this activity requires you to ‘ponder and do nothing’. You can do it with your eyes closed or open, with your focus aimed at the breath, the heartbeat, or any other sensation in the body. You can observe your thoughts or let them run their course. You should simply ‘be’ in the moment, allowing the mind to settle with its many dialogues and considerations. This practice might seem difficult at first, but over time it will certainly prove worthy and enjoyable. It has been proven that daily practice of meditation reduces anxiety, lowers stress levels, and promotes creativity, so sit down and relax, the mind will thank you for it…
Tip #4 – Learn.
They say that the moment we stop learning we start dying. That might not sound too encouraging, but it surely holds a bit of truth. Whatever your life’s calling is, there always will be something new worth learning and with the morning set right, you should strive to acquire little knowledge each day. It will not only improve your mental capacity, but also enhance your employability, enrich your persona, and offer a great deal of entertainment for the mind. Schedule a little time for this simple activity of learning, whether by reading, listening, or watching, and commit to it daily. Become a student for life and see how your fertile mind flourishes thanks to your effort!
Tip #5 – Prioritize.
There is only so many hours in the day and however much you will struggle against that fact, there is not much you can do about it. That is why it is necessary to use time wisely every day. Before you get on with your work for the day, ensure you understand your priorities and adjust your plan accordingly. Many recipes for success underline this part of the process. You must know what you should focus your attention and efforts on. Write down the day’s tasks and goals and choose three you will prioritize. Do not let the urgency of some overwhelm the importance of others. Weight your goals appropriately, prioritize and execute. With a well-planned day, there is nothing that could stop your progress!
Win the day…
With your body, mind, and soul refuelled you are now ready to face the challenges of the day. Use these five tips wisely and daily. It will seem difficult at first, but success will certainly follow suit. There will be days you will fail and that is okay. All the ingredients require discipline and persistence, so brace yourself and do the uncomfortable work. With a successful morning, you are sure to have a great, productive, and wonderful day!
As Paula White states in her book Deal with it! – ‘Your future is found in your daily routine. Successful people do daily, what others do occasionally’.
